MUSE (damn you 10 character rule)

This may just be for me and Jake, but everyone else feel free to join in. But mine and Jake's favorite band, Muse, is about to release another album in September, so I'm getting extremely pumped for it.

And to get the excitement going, here are videos.

If I wasn't so broke, I would probably get Guitar Hero 5 just because of this video. But man, Matt Bellamy is one ugly guy, even in video game form.


And a live version on Assassin, which they rarely play live.


So let's discuss Muse, and other music, but we could create a new category just for music if that would be better.

Bellamy most certainly is an ugly dude. Why do they rarely play Assassin live? Thats a shame, its one of my favorites. Maybe the content is too controversial? I wouldn't think this is the reason because Muse doesn't seem to care about stuff like that.

Maybe it's like with Shrinking Universe. They just don't play it too often. It makes it more special that way, though. I'll get you an mp3 of the Assassin live track, once someone on muselive.com gets it up in their forums.

Shrinking Universe is another one of my favorites. This means that if I went to one of their concerts its likely that 2 out of my top 3 are unlikely to be played. Guess I'd be counting on Apocalypse Please. But I love so many of their songs that it wouldn't matter.

Jake, I'm not as afraid of the new album. Those 30 second iTunes samples did not do the songs justice. This may end up being my favorite song on the album. It's pretty awesome.

I'm listening to the new CD right now. I got it today, do you want me to bring it tomorrow? err.. it'll be in my car either way so scratch that.

That's okay...I got it, too. Brandy and I went to Hastings, and it was there, so I had to buy it.

So far, I like it, but not as much as some of their other albums. It's definitely different, but I don't really think it was as progressive as Muse promised. The final three tracks, the symphony, definitely lives up to Muse's promise, but I thought the beginning felt more like copping out. Brandy said Undisclosed Desires sounded like a boy band. So they definitely changed some stuff, which is fine, but "pop" isn't what I would call new or original. And Guiding Light is pretty much the Invincible of this album...I might end up skipping that one every time I listen to the album. But really, other than the two songs I mentioned, it's really good. I definitely enjoy United States of Eurasia, Unnatural Selection, and I Belong To You.

Invincible isn't that bad, its just really forgettable and skippable. So I guess that makes it just kind of bad? I'm just now getting the chance to listen through the whole thing, I've been busy with homework and watching the Office.

Undisclosed Desires...

Guiding Light is basically Invincible, good call.

Told ya. It's even close to the same order on the tracklist.

Undisclosed Desires is really a stinker. It doesn't even sound like they tried on that track. At least Guiding Light had some effort in it, but I still didn't care for it.

Unnatural Selection. Amazing.

I KNOW! MK Ultra wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but it's still good. And I Belong To You is different than the usual Muse stuff, but I really like to feel of that song.

I noticed something about this album...there's almost no falsetto. The vocals stay in about the same range for most of the songs, except for maybe United States of Eurasia, and I need to listen to the symphony again because it all kind of blends together. But the vocals don't seem as overpowering as in other albums, which I think is a shame.

Just finished it, the entire Symphony is great. Overall I say this is an awesome CD, it has a few meh songs (one really crappy one), but it has some great stuff too.

I really liked I Belong To You as well. I'll have to listen through it again.

So far, Brandy has skipped Undisclosed Desires every time it's played. I finally listened to that track all the way through this morning...it may be my least favorite song from Muse. I may hate that song.

It seems that with each album, they have one song that is just awful, and it gets worse the more recent the album. Absolution had "Endlessly", BH&R had "Invincible" (for me, that was my least favorite song until now), and Resistance has "Undisclosed Desires".

Undisclosed Desires is without a doubt their worst song. There are a few songs of theirs that I've disliked (the ones you've named), but I think this is the only song of theirs that I hate. For five albums that is pretty impressive imo.

It's shameful, but I actually like the song they did for the Twilight Movie(Supermassive Black Hole). I haven't heard their new stuff, need to. The only way I'd ever watch Twilight again is with the Rifftracks on. Eck.

I'm not even sure if I could sit through Twilight again, even with Rifftrax. That was...horrible.

But don't feel ashamed, because I actually like that song, too. That's what got me so upset, because I like the song and there it is...while vampires are playing baseball. What's really great about the song, though, is that every time they play the song, they change the guitar solo during the song. I love Muse's ability to improve during live performances and still make it sound great.

What?! that scene is like Benny Hill or something. They just look stupid running so fast to get a baseball and then they run into eachother like morons. While this badass Muse song is playing. It's no good.

That was, probably, the lamest scene in the movie. Except for maybe the first time the vampire sparkles.

Damn your Twilight! The next movie is claiming one of my favorite Muse songs from their new album.

But in other Muse news, here's another reason I love this band. When a TV show asks them to perform, and insists on them playing from a recording or lip-sync, Muse will mess with people. The following video features the lead singer on drums, the drummer on bass and vocals, and the bassist on lead guitar and keyboard. And the host thinks the drummer is the lead singer for the following interview. I love this band.

And just like every Muse thread on any forum...it has become a Twilight flame war.
